Environmental authorities have been baffled by a sharp rise in the number of dead turtles washing up on Rottnest Island and believe the increase may be linked to spiralling ocean temperatures off WA.

The Department of Environment and Conservation confirmed an increase in the number of turtles usually associated with tropical waters being found dead at the popular holiday spot.

Although the Rottnest Island Authority suggested about five carcasses - believed to have been green turtles - had been noted in the past 12 months, residents on the island have put the figure upwards of 20.

A DEC spokeswoman said that the agency was unsure what had been causing the deaths but there would not be an investigation because it was considered a natural phenomenon.

However, the spokeswoman said several factors could have played a part including warmer water temperatures and changing ocean currents.

She said that it was known for green turtles to occasionally migrate as far south as Perth but Rottnest was outside their usual habitat, suggesting they may have struggled to find food.

The possible role of warmer ocean temperatures could be the latest symptom of broader changes that have played havoc with some fisheries and may be linked to an increase in shark attacks.

In December, the Department of Fisheries said it was investigating whether a marine heatwave had led to an increase in great white shark activity by pushing cooler water, which they preferred, towards the coast.

"There has been an increase in dead turtles being found on the shore at Rottnest Island in the past five months," the DEC spokes-woman said.

"While the reason for the increase is unclear, there could be a number of factors, including predation, water temperature and ocean currents."

One frequent user of Rottnest's beaches, who asked not to be named, said the number of dead turtles was an increasing topic of discussion among island residents.

She said that locals had known the phenomenon to happen before but never to the same extent.

The Galapagos

Sophie and David   are making a movie for a famous American movie festival it is about   the Galapagos Island. The Galapagos Islands are volcanoes   . They are in the Pacific Ocean. Some islands are very big   and some islands are very small and have no name. Many of them stay in the Town of Puerto Agora on the island of Santa Cruz there is a small town on sun Cristobal and a very small town Villain   on the island of Isabella. Isabella is a big island. There is sometimes a problem because animals and birds live near the volcanoes. There is not much food and not much water. Only very strong animals can survive.

I spend my holidays in the country. (صحیح)

کلمه country اگر همراه با a  بیاید به معنای کشور است. اگر این کلمه همراه با the  بیاید به معنای منطقه خارج از شهر (ییلاق) است.

 

To be right or wrong.

 

You have right or you have wrong. (غلط)

You are right or you are wrong. (صحیح)

به معنای این جملات توجه کنید: حق با شماست. (شما حق دارید) شما در اشتباه هستید. (شما اشتباه می کنید) در این مورد نباید از جملات دسته اول استفاده کنیم چرا که در این صورت دچار خطای زبان بیابین شده ایم. به این معنی که کلمات زبان انگلیسی را قالب زبان فارسی ریخته ایم.

 

 

Speak or speaks

 

 

He speak English very well. غلط

 He speaks English very well.صحیح

این مورد از خطاهای رایج نو آموزان است. به این ترتیب که فراموش می کنند هنگامی که نهاد جمله سوم شخص مفرد است به فعل جمله s اضافه کنند. (فراموش نکنیم که اضافه کردن s فقط در زمان حال ساده است و در زمانهای دیگر سوم شخص مفرد با دیگر اشخاص تفاوتی نمی کند.)

 

Write or wrote

 

I write a letter yesterday. غلط

I wrote a letter yesterday. صحیح

 

باید توجه داشته باشیم که فعل جمله از نظر زمان باید با قید زمان جمله مطابقت داشته باشد. چون قید زمان جمله (دیروز) است پس باید فعل جمله، گذشته باشد.

 

Write or wrote

 

I wrote a letter every week. غلط

I write a letter every week. صحیح

 باید توجه داشته باشیم که فعل جمله از نظر زمان باید با قید زمان جمله مطابقت داشته باشد. چون قید زمان جمله (هر هفته) است و این قید زمان نشانگر عادت و تکرار است پس باید فعل جمله، به صورت مصدر بدون to  باشد.

 

 

A teacher or teacher

 

I am not teacher. I am student. غلط

I am not a teacher. I am a student. صحیح

 

اگر فعل جمله از افعال (to be) باشد حرف تعریف a  را نباید فراموش کنیم. ( در صورتی که مکمل جمله یک اسم عام باشد.) بدیهی است که اگر مکمل جمله یک صفت باشد a  یا the نیاز نخواهد بود.

مثال: I am happy.

 

 

Do

 

Do pupils their work carefully? غلط

Do pupils do their work carefully? صحیح

 

کلمه Do در زمان حال ساده برای سوالی کردن جمله می آید و در این صورت معنای خاصی ندارد. (می توانیم به صورت آیا معنی کنیم.) اما این کلمه را نباید با do  که به معنای انجام دادن (فعل اصلی) است اشتباه کنیم. علت این که جمله اول غلط است این است که این جمله اصلا فعل ندارد و do  به معنای انجام دادن هم، فعل اصلی است و بنابر این نمی توانیم آن را به اول جمله منتقل کنیم. پس do در صورتی که معنای انجام دادن بدهد یک فعل اصلی است و از نظر ساختار تفاوتی با افعالی نظیر: work/ go/ see/ / write  ندارد.

 

Years old

 

My sister is fifteen years. غلط

My sister is fifteen years old. صحیح

در مورد سن افراد اگر اگر کلمه years را ذکر کنیم باید old  را هم اضافه کنیم. البته می توانیم years old  را نگوییم. پس My sister is fifteen هم صحیح است

I was absent one time or two times. غلط

I was absent once or twice. صحیح

 باید به جای one time  از once و به جای two times  از twice استفاده کنیم. Once  یعنی یک بار و twice یعنی دو بار.

 

Half past

 

Lessons begin at eight and half. غلط

Lessons begin at half past eight. صحیح

 

درسها در ساعت هشت و نیم شروع می شوند. اگر از کلمه half  استفاده کنیم باید از past  به معنای گذشته نیز استفاده کنیم. البته می توانیم از دقیقه هم استفاده کنیم یعنی می توانیم بگوییم:

 Lessons begin at eight thirty.

 

 

On foot

 

Shall we go there with the feet? غلط

Shall we go there on foot? صحیح

On foot  به معنای پیاده رفتن است.

 

Switch on

 

Please turn on the light. غلط

Please swtich on the light. صحیح

برای روشن و خاموش کردن چراغ یا لامپ از switch on یا switch off  استفاده می کنیم.

 

 

The day before yesterday

 

Nima arrived before yesterday. غلط

Nima arrived the day befre yesterday. صحیح

The day before yesterday به معنای پریروز است.

Please answer my question. صحیح

بعد از  answer آوردن to  زائد است.

 

Goes to school

 

My sister goes to  the school. غلط

My sister goes to school. صحیح

Go to school  به معنای دانش آموز بودن است اما go to the school  به معنای دیدار از مدرسه،

 مثلا برای یک بار است.

 

Last night

 

I last night went to the cinema. غلط

I went to the cinema last night. صحیح

قیدهای زمانی مانند: last night/ yesterday/ today/ tomorrow/ lastweek/ two months ago معمولا در انتهای جمله قرار می‌گیرند. اما اگر روی قید زمان تاکید داشته باشیم می توانیم آن را در ابتدای جمله بیاوریم.

مانند: Yesterday I was very busy.

 

 

Always

 

They  come always to school by bus. غلط

They always come to school by bus. صحیح

قیدهای زمان نامعین (قیدهای تکرار) از قبیل : ever/ never/ always/ often/ usually/ seldom/ soon/ sometimes/ always قبل از فعل اصلی جمله می‌آیند.

توجه: اگر فعل جمله از مشتقات مصدر to be باشد، در این صورت این قیدها بعد از فعل می‌آیند.

مثال: They are always beautifully dressed.
